Here are some photos from our drive today. We took a scenic route that was on the map, but something happened, and after a while found ourselves on a narrow, winding, hilly dirt road that was NOT on the map. Still scenic though!
We were so deep in the woods, yet we still came across houses tucked back into the hills - so far from civilization.
We drove through two covered bridges,
Everywhere - EVERYWHERE, charming low stone walls define homesteads. These walls for the most part were built by the first settlers, 200 or more years ago. Some walls have been reconstructed, or repaired, and a few have been compiled new.
Here is an interesting stone treatment I'd not seen before.
with tall steeples soaring into the sky. General stores, post offices, town halls - all are white sided, long, narrow, two-storied. Everywhere is evidence of the festivals about to take place this Columbus Day weekend. There will be flea markets, craft fairs, apple festivals, pumpkin festivals, maple syrup stands, scarecrow displays. Each town has its own "thing."
Even Camperama will be all dressed up for the fall weekend.
